Old-ish modem not working on Windows 7
Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with my somewhat-old Billion BIPAC 7000 ADSL modem. I used to use Windows XP, and the modem (with its original drivers) worked perfectly on that OS.
Now that I've switched to Windows 7 Ultimate, the drivers don't even install properly (the setup starts by saying that the drivers aren't compatible with the OS, after which Windows 7 suggests trying it with "recommended settings", i.e. in Windows XP compatibility I'm guessing). The drivers then install, but the device isn't listed in the device manager. Failing this option, I let Windows 7 try and find drivers through the drivers database online, and it finds a generic Conexant ADSL modem driver for my modem. The driver installs but it doesn't even list the modem under 'modems' in the device manager. It is listed as a 'USB network adapter' and is simply called "ADSL USB MODEM". The modem is directly connected to the PC via a USB cable.
My modem detects the DSLAM (and thus the line signal) and it is connected to the computer, so the drivers did at least do something. But I can't select the modem when I want to create a new internet connection through the wizard.
Maybe I'm just a big newbie with Windows 7, but can anyone please shed some light on this dilemma for me? Is my modem too old for this OS? There are no drivers for Windows 7 even on the company's website (only for 98/ME/2000/XP), but surely the modem should still work somehow
