Upgrading from 7 HP to Ult

Not long purchased a new PC with 7 HP 64-bit pre-installed. Have been given a genuine copy of Ultimate, unused, and am wondering the best way of installing it.
Can i do it by just inserting the 64-bit disk and will it affect any programs that have been added since the purchase.

The Best thing to do, If you still have all the install media then do a re-install Unless try putting the Ult. key into anytime upgrade

Many thanks. However i notice that in Anytime upgrade it says to enter an upgrade key and not to use the product key that came with the package. Does this really matter?

i'd try it anyway, it'll do no harm. If that doesn't eork then a clean install it is! Remember to backup though! :P

You can use any Retail key, to go up versions.

do you need the features of Ultimate? if not then why not sell it to someone.

Remember that as long as you are using the Ultimate license on that computer, a perfectly good Premium license valued at $100+ which can only be used on that machine is being wasted.

So unless you absolutely need the Ultimate features, consider moving Ultimate to another machine in the future, gift it or sell it to recover the value of the HPremium which is being wasted for possibly no good reason.

If your copy of Ultimate is a retail license, it could be moved easily in the future to another system. As for the current system, I've done an anytime upgrade on my wife's laptop that had Windows 7 Home Premium on it, and upgraded it to Pro so we could join it to our domain at home. The Pro was a retail license, and in the future, could be moved to another computer. We could then put the original Home Premium license back on with a clean install. If my Pro had been an upgrade, this wouldn't be the case.
