Format C drive before installing W7?

I have a laptop with Vista and I bought a dvd of Windows 7 Full version that I want to install on this laptop. I want to remove Vista. Do I have to format the c drive before installing Windows 7 or will this be done during the installation process?

Hello eagleye50, welcome to Seven Forums!

If you have No Data on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that you don't want to lose, have a look at the tutorial at the link below to do a wipe "secure erase" on the HDD so you'll have a clean slate to start with, though any/all data on the HDD will be over-written so be sure.

You can save a lot of money by using a Win7 Upgrade version since you have qualifying Vista OS.

Use the full version on another computer, gift or sell it.

Hasn't this been covered to death, search on it.
But I agree, you just need upgrade version, save that one for a built from scratch PC.
