RC not ready for prime time?

With all the problems some folks are having trying to install this perhaps MS should stop allowing downloads till they fix the problem in RC-2. If this product is released to the public as is it will be a disaster. What is shocking is that the beta installed without a hitch but would not install in many of the same machines. The RC is a case of if it works fix it till it breaks. I would not recommend anyone trying this till it is fixed.

PEBKAC means what? My problems were unable to install with a clean install. Problems finding disk. Took me several days till it finally installed after rebooting with install disk in CD drive, telling system not to boot from CD, window opening, choose normal start up. If that procedure is normal then it should be documented. However the RC installed with no problems in another machine. Difference in machines: The one it installed in normally has 3.5G of memory and had a 32 bit OS. I clean install to 64 with no isues. The problem machine had rhe32 bit beta, 3.5G memor.

Perhaps you have a corrupted DL of the x86 version?
Did you DL the RC from MS, or one of the leaked builds?

I've had no problems installing x86 on 2 computers, and x64 on one.

Sorry to confuse you. The system with the beta that I had a problem installing the 64 bit had the 32 bit system previously. The 32 bit beta installed on that with out a hitch previously. That is the machine with the 4 G memory and that I finally got the 64 bit RC installed. The system where the 64 bit RC installed with no problems was a clean install over VISTA with 3.5Gs. The RCs were all installed directly from MS. (I am afraid to use other sites!)

I have to say - I just got a new drive in the mail this morning - I thought, "What the heck- I'll see what happens".
I unplugged my normal boot drive, plugged in the new, unformatted drive, powered up and stuck in the W7 64-bit install DVD.
From start to finish - including a Windows update download and install - it was less than 15 minutes. And this was on a bare drive - which of course also had to get formatted.

I still have the W7 beta on the other drive which also installed smoothly. I am normally the first to nit-pik, but - I have to say I have never had such an amazing install.

Another case of user error blaming the os.
