You can begin install from safe mode up until the first reboot (after it goes through "copying windows files", "expanding windows files" etc.). Then it requires you to run in normal mode to proceed any further.
Thanks for the suggestions with the drivers, I will give that a shot if I can come across some more free time. I tried installing from xp and the same thing happened (went through first part of install, rebooted, and froze at "starting windows").
Do you think picking up a new hard drive would have a chance of solving the issue? The hard drive I am using is really the only old piece of hardware I'm putting into the machine. I have been using it for a long time, going on about 5 years now. I thought clearing out the hard drive and reformatting it would change something but maybe I just need a whole new HDD?
I could also return the mobo and try replacing it with a different one
