I own one of these machines myself and I know that it cannot run a 64-bit OS. It does not matter whether you are trying to upgrade an existing 32bit OS or do a fresh install of the 64bit OS - it does not posses the required CPU and chipset. To run Windows 64 bit you need a CPU with EM64T support. The Aspire 5315 comes with a Pentium 4 M processor which is a 32-bit only processor.
I'd hate to revive an old post, but it is fact that people are still looking for help on this topic. You Razputin are indeed wrong. There are 2 versions of the 5315 one with a pentium M and one with a Celeron @2.0 ghz `1.73 The celeron model will indeed take windows 7 x64. The model Acer Aspire 5315-2326 - 15.4" - C 550 I have and it has windows 7 x64 loaded on it. The problem is E-power managment isn't supported under that OS for that notebook so the fans turn off randomly. Again I am sorry for reviving an old post but I hate seeing people ask for help and get false information. I hope my words help someone looking in the future as I have seen a lot of these notebooks popping up.
