I want my whole hard-drive back Please

Hi, before I upgraded to Win 7 I had XP Home OS, but I also had a dual boot, either into linux or XP.
I upgraded to Win 7, and due to the lack of use that Linux got decided to simply forget Linux, but it has half my hard-drive, can I get this back, without disrupting Win 7 Ultimate ?

    Thank You
    Kind Regards
    Gary

Welcome to seven forums. I would use a third party program such as Partition Wizard. It is a free download very easy to use and works good. Have a look at this tutorial and you should be able to delete your Linux partition and format it using ntsf. you could also merge it back into your Windows 7 Partition if you wanted more free space there. Good luck to you with this problem.

If you post a snip of your Disk Management, we would be able to indicate the smoothest method to accomplish that. Partition Wizard that myzr7 posted is a good program. Although normally it should not impact the partition that you plan to extend, I would, however, recommend to image that partition - just in case. It is always good to have a backup.

For disk Management, i think you can just type in "Disk Management" into the search bar.

The window that pops up will have a Graphic interpretation of the partitions for all the Hard drives you are using.

You can use the Snip Tool to get a screenshot and save it.

Then upload it to a new post in this thread with the Attachment paper clip in the post box.

Once we can see the picture, WHS or someone else can advise on exact command line instructions for your exact setup.

Bring up Disk management, use the Snipping Tool (in Start > Accessories) to make a snip, attach the snipped picture with the paper clip that is on the right on top of the reply box.

OK; I assume you want to add the 96GBs to C. Do as follows:

    1. In Disk Management, right click on the 96GB partition and Delete Partition (or Volume). That should give you the 96GBs of unallocated space.
    2. Right click on C and Extend Partition (or Volume). That brings up a wizard that lets you add the 96GBs to C. In that operation nothing is going to happen to the content of C. It will just grow by the 96GBs.

Hello Gazz777, welcome to Seven Forums!

I would use the "Wipe" function in Partition Wizard to over-write the data in the partition first as a delete/format does not over-write the data, it just marks it to be over-written as needed, and it would be best to guarantee that none of the Linux files will come back to bite you later, have a look at the snip below.

    Thanx a million,
however I don't get the option to increase the volume, I can shrink but not increase.
