    Help with reinstallation from download

I need some help. I can't figure out how to solve my problem. I bought Win 7 Home premium uprgade as a download. The day came when it was released and I downloaded it and upgraded from Vista.

I want to reformat my HHD now and I don't know how I can do that and still put Win 7 back on because it was a download and not a disc I did the upgrade from.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have heard, but not tried
That if you have a key, you can use the Windows Anytime Upgrde

Give MS a call to be sure.

You downloaded an OS worth $100+ and didn't burn to a DVD or even back up the file? That's what the Downloads folder is for.

Fortunately, MS made good on a whole bunch of downloads that were provided box files instead of the ISO image file (which you burn to DVD or write to flash stick) here: Microsoft Fixes Windows 7 Student Edition Upgrade Problems

Clean Install using Custom>Drive Options to repartition and format, using the Product Key which was emailed to you. You did save that, right?

Pretty dumb of me, I know. I don't remember every deleting it but I can't find it so something happened.

Thanks for the help though. I'll give it a try.

I was just planning on restoring my PC from my factory image and then upgrading it again from the iso. Is that not going to work?

Do I need to do this clean install you speak of?

A clean install is a much better install in most cases, plus you don't need to put Vista back on to reinstall Win7 Upgrade version: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Just boot the Win7 installer and it will see any OS to pass a flag allowing use of Upgrade version key. You can then go on to use Custom>Drive Tools to Delete, Repartition, and Format as you please.

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in device Manager can be found on manufacturer's Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device.

Install programs slowly over time to gauge performance changes. Don't allow any programs besides AV and gadgets to write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they freeload on CPU/RAM and spy on you. Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials.

When your all set up, clean and order the HD perfectly using state-of-the-art CCleaner and Auslogics Disk and REgistry defraggers. Then save a Win7 backup image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage in 15 minutes from installler's Repair console using saved image file.
