LOL, I guess I should have mentioned it was an external hard drive huh? You'll have to forgive me, I am still learning a lot when it comes to computers...I am learning though with y'alls help. I have a folder called "Retrieved Contents" in my documents when I backed up all my stuff on the ext HD. I am still trying to figure out how to get the stuff out of that folder onto my computer, like my emails back onto Outlook 2003, pictures, documents and such. Can I back up things from other computers on this same external HD?

    Thanks for your help,

    Casey

I would ask the question about how to reimport Outlook mail in the Office forum here. Should be an easy one for the experts there.

I personally drag and drop my active User folders to external so I don't waste a lot of space as the backup utilities seem to do. We have six home computers here where I use an external to drag active User files monthly for each, then keep a backup image from right after install which I know isn't suffering yet from creeping corruption.

Since I'm backing up the image and files separately, I keep the OS on its own partition with installed programs then put the data on a second partition so it isn't included with the OS image but is backed up on its own to be more current. Here is tutorial on how to separate User folders into their own data partition: User Folders - Change Default Location and a video: Data Partition
