upgrading from vista to 7

I am trying to upgrade from vista ultimate to 7 ultimate, I don't want to format, the only issue I am having upon upgrading is that there is not enough disc space on my drive to continue the upgrade.

What is the best way to do this, I only have 3gig left.

Hi and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would, like anyone else, recommend that you backup your files and format the HDD anyway. Many people choose to upgrade instead of doing a clean install of Windows 7, and I can assure you that if you go with just an upgrade, you will have a lot of difficulty and problems.

Have a fresh start. Clean install

Yes, but it'll be worth it. Now you can sit back and update all your old software installations, reach out to more alternatives, or just enjoy the functionality of the system itself. WMP12 is better than ever, IE8 works best on Win7, WMC has issues but works quite alright...

You have been given the best advice to do a clean install rather than in-place Upgrade which can import corruption into your new Win7 install.

If you want to run the in-place Upgrade to try it until you find the time to do the clean reinstall, then delete some files which you have already backed up anyway.

Upgrading from Vista
Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that came with Vista. I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 pro, installed it and it worked - mostly. There are a few things that seem to behave differently from my desktop machine that was purchased with Win 7 pro. As time went on, things just got worse - IE 8 barely...

I have purchased the upgrade designed for Windows Vista to move my daughter's computer to Windows 7. It has Vista Home Premium SP2 on it now. It has a lot of junk, and all she wants is the pics and videos, which I've backed up. Would it be better to make a clean re-install of Vista with the...
