Windows 7 Ultimatie x64

This is what I do know about it. I've tried to fill it in as best as possible but i'm kinda a noob with the technics.

You can cut and paste the questions below on your New Thread to easily give the answers:

Current Operating System, pre-install

• Do you have a single OS on your computer, are you planning on multi-booting with this installation? No
• Are you multi-booting now? No

Current Hardware

• How many internal hard drives (HD) are connected to your system? 2 :C and
• Are they IDE or SATA? SATA
• How many DVD drives are connected to your system? 1
• Are they IDE or SATA Drives? SATA I think..
• Any external HDs used? Nope
• Are they connected by USB or eSATA? /
• Check Disk Management for any HDs listed with a yellow triangle and explanation point? I have no idea how to do this sorry, i΄m a noob with pc technics
• Is this a New Clean HD?
• Have you pre-formatted the HD?

Windows 7 installation details

• Which build number and version of Windows 7 are you installing? Ultimate
• Are you installing a 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit (x64) OS? X64
• Where did you get the ISO file from? CD/ROM

Installation Media

• Using a USB memory key? No
• From another partition or hard disk? No?
• From a DVD? Yes from a CD
The procedure and speed of burning the ISO to DVD has been the most frequent cause of installation failure
• How did you burn the DVD? Briefly describe the steps you used. I have no idea a friend of mine gave it to me
• Which ISO burning software did you use? Don΄t know sorry
• At what burning speed and with Verify checked? No idea
• A slow burn speed, lowest setting (example x4 speed), will ensure an error free burn. ????

Other

• Any Over Clocking of the RAM, CPU or GPU?

Note: I used this cd-rom allready before when I was running vista and upgrading it to windows 7 which worked fine. After some updates of vista as SP etc. Now my pc is clean and I want a full windows 7 install.

If a friend gave you a hacked CD/DVD, that may be your problem. You need a valid Microsoft Install DVD & an a Valid Key Code

To clarify though, was the version of the windows 7 ultimate a full version or Upgrade version?

When you stated you upgraded from Vista, it went fine, but didn't state if it was a full or upgraded version and you are now starting from literal scratch to install it.

Another question to help clarify things carefully is how far into the installation does it go. I have only installed win 7 twice, and forgetting at which point it will go through the process of unpacking files, but majority of the concerns is at what point of the install it seems to fail.

How do you plan to activate WIn7?

You said you used the same DVD to upgrade before, but perhaps it has gotten dirty since then or needs to be burned again using ImgBurn at 4x speed which never fails. The error appears to be a DVD read error.

Failure to unpack at 0% can also be existing OS or HD:
Try wiping the HD before install: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
Test the HD using maker's full diag/repair CD scan: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Boot Win7 DVD, press Shift F10 to open command line, type chkdsk /r to run Disk Check

Make sure you have the latest BIOS update from the Dell Support Downloads webpage for your tag number. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Check the SATA controller setting in BIOS setup. Set to AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install. Test your RAM using memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes. Swap, reseat your RAM.
