Transferring installed programs and other files

    Hi!
I have a brand new Acer ax3910 with Win 7 home premium 64 bit already installed.

My old computer is an XP home machine but I don't want to give up my software that I have installed on it It is all 32 bit the file system is FAT 32 and I want to transfer it to my new computer's harddrive. I have both computers and an external hard drive large enough to hold the data from the old computer. Of course I don't want to transfer the OS!

Can someone tell me what I need and how to go about the transfer as cheaply as possible.

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Type easy transfer in search
With easy transfer you can transfer everything, dirctly via special cable or to a finger driver first and then to 7, except programs
I mean everything, desktop, accounts, documents etc.

Not programs, they must be downloaded again or reinstalled with the DVD andk key.

Check out PCMover from LapLink. AFAIK, it is the ONLY app remaining that also moves programs, not just files and settings.

MS used to have something called Easy Transfer Companion -- which they got when they bought out AlohabobRelocator -- and then soon after, pulled it. That's ONE WAY to get rid of the competition!

Just found out about this free one called Paragon Go Virtual. You can create a image of your existing system and run it as a Virtual Machine under Windows 7 32 or 64 bit using VMWare or Oracle VirtualBox (free). I've not used it yet but it looks interesting so I will check it out some time soon.

The Users Manual is pretty good.

Not the same as running the programs native under Win 7 but a possible alternative.

Move you files over and just install your porgrams that is the best thing you can do, and the closest to moveing, its like when you move houses, you do not take the fridge stove and washer\dryer, with you
