    installing windows 7 over XP. 3 harddrives. will they ALL be formatted


    I have 3 harddrives the primary i dont care if its formatted, thats the one the OS goes on. the other 2 have all my movies on it (3tb total, 1tb and 2tb drive) will these 2 extra drives be formatted as well or untouched? If they are going to be formated can i just upplug them and plug back in once 7 is installed

    note if it matters ill be installing win7 unltimate NOT the upgrade

    Hello jmichael99, welcome to Seven Forums!





    If you're concerned you can disconnect the Hard Disk Drives (HDD) you want and just leave the HDD you want to install Windows 7 to connected, in-fact if you do that and you want the best possible space to install to have a look at the tutorial at the link below; it over-writes every sector on the HDD to remove any/all old data.

I've yet to move to 7 & was planning a dual boot with XP. As far as I can establish, XP, Vista & 7 all use NTFS version 3.1, however I've heard stories of incompatibility (though never specific & nothing mentioned on MS/TechNet etc). ...I usually do clean installs on partitions I've created...
I never did anything like this when I had XP, but I was wondering if, with W7, I would need to completely reformat/repair the pre-existing content on my current HDD. I've just purchased a new platform (1156), and wanted to use my current drive. Since W7, from what I've gathered, obtains drivers...
