Cant log in after clean install!

Hi, I am having real issues installing Windows 7, Home premium 64mb. Have formatted & clean installed it 6 times now... The Pc is a new build so the HDD is fresh...

It installs ok, then when asked I use my name as user name, Jon, cant type that wrong... I don't set a password just yet as I am the only user.

Windows then takes me to a log in screen. I enter Jon as user name, wont let me in..!? Says incorrect password or user name!?!? I try to log in as Admin, I know now its disabled by default. I can get into Windows via the safe mode, so I used the command prompt to enable the Admin, yet when I went to log in as Admin, it was disabled!?!?! So I pretty much get locked out of my pc every time I install. Am I missing something simple? I cant find any answers except on how to switch on the Admin which didnt work... I have read your tutorials too.

Any ideas greatly appreciated......Many thanks

When you are in safe mode, can you set up a password and try to use that when you log in?
It sounds like it is a passord problem.

Thanks for the reply,

Have tried using a password on the second install, still chucked it out. Ill try again in safe mode, I did put a password in yesterday but it said my account was disabled as Id set it to admin and set the admin to yes in command prompt, but didn't work still.. Ill install again and try that in safe mode...

Hello Einherjar, welcome to Seven Forums!

As you say the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is new and there's nothing to lose, if so make backups first.

Have a look at this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe "clean all" of the entire HDD to remove any code from the other install attempts, this over-writes anything on the HDD giving you the best possible space to try another install to.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Windows does not like it when a password is not entered during the install process, enter one this time to see if that with the wipe will get you going.

Be sure to post back with an update.

Thanks for the help, something really weird happened last night.

I have had windows working once before, but it kept on crashing once I'd installed the correct drivers for my ATI card. Every time I have run the windows installation how ever, it's always been in a horrible colour and resolution. I figured the ATI card was faulty. So yesterday before trying to install windows using a log on password, I installed some new ram so had the pc laying down, I fired it up and it worked perfectly. So I'm just really confused right now. Windows is fine, takes my password, ATI is installed and all up to date, tried some games on it. Left it on all night updating my steam, still good this morning. So either my ram was causing an issue, or my ATI card is not installed right (its pretty heavy) and its causing some sort of issue. To be honest I don't have a clue, the ATI seems fine the way its in. Its bolted to the chassis too.

Thanks again for the replies.
