install problems

i know my other thread was moved.. those bsod's were when i had windows up and running... now i cant get it installed.

ive gone through the suggestions listed on the help list, and i just cant get it to install properly now

when i try to boot from the HDD i get "BOOTMGR is missing - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

when i boot from the dvd drive (windows 7 x64 home oem) it boots up, trys to install windows and gives me the files missing or corrupt error

im kinda lost.

Where did you get Win7? It sounds like you burned it yourself and either the ISO or burn is bad.

Try loading ISO into ImgBurn to Verify Disk, make sure it says Bootable in text at left, then insert DVD to Verify against ISO.

Try burning another DVD at 4x speed using ImgBurn. Or you can write to USB flash stick: USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Once you get a working bootable installer I would wipe the HD before reinstall: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

i got the disc from newegg, Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems

what is imgburn? are these programs i can run on this XP laptop? i dont have a dvd burner (except the one connected to the computer im trying to install win7 on)

Did you try the install with only 2gb of memory ?

@ doc: i have not tried the install with only 2g of memory, i was searching for other options before removing memory

Im running diskpart > clean all right now - seems like its going to take a while on my 1TB drive - when that is done, what do you guys recommend? Will I need to manually create a partition for windows, like the linked tutorial suggests?

Don't try again to install to the entire 1TB space, create a space no bigger than 100GB to install Windows 7 to, sometime the install chokes on so big a space to install to; just follow Step Two in the tutorial.

Be advised, the "clean all" will take close to 4 hours or more to complete, leave it alone and let it finish, you will get a notice in diskpart when it's done.

ok ill create a partition to install windows on, what size do you recommend? I can trim it down to size later on correct? Would it be worth making it large enough to encompass all my applications as well, or leave it for only the OS?

I've got 4 hours to figure this out, haha
