Windows 7: win7 home premium in spanish?

Linux CENTOS 7 / various Windows OS'es and servers

Hi there

a cheaper way might be just to install the Spanish Language packs. Free download from MS

OK not everything will be in Spanish but around 90% will be.

How to easily download and install Windows 7 Language Packs (MUI packs) | Windows 7 Center

I've never come across any documentation that says that win7 product keys are language specific or region specific. As far as I know any key will work with any language dvd provided they are for the same SKU. At the most, if the key was previously used for an "X" language install and is now to be used with "Y" language, it may require a phone activation.

I have been searching the forums this morning to get a definitive answer on this. Several times over the past year I have asked our language expert Kari to clarify these issues. Here is a representative post from him on the issue of Product Keys being language specific:
Will english activation code work with Spanish OS?

But perhaps these references from MS on changing Language will be enough:

Edit: SevenForums Admin Brink just ran a virtual install of Spanish Win7 and reports:
The Windows 7 installation DVD and product key are both language and region specific.
Sorry for any confusion. I will keep researching this to add anything else found.

Was this an unused key and did Shawn try phone activation?

Also, what error message?

Is a link to Shawn's post available?

There's no post from Shawn, I quoted from his PM as I'm sure he didn't mind.

I just wanted to give the lady the facts as best as I could find them and Brink is Word for me.

I think it might be another one of those situations that Kari clued us to with OEM mobo changes, where he was given repeated activation exceptions by MS. Others have confirmed this. He said the same about activating another language. Will english activation code work with Spanish OS?

I am feeling kinda sad about the news on Kari right now from Chillout. He always had good answers on language issues.

Thanks for the effort Greg. Its just that I'm not convinced on this issue. I appreciate Kari's (am praying he gets well soon) and Shawn's work. But I've read numerous accounts of different language keys actually working, even on MS's social forums different MVPs speak in different voices on this thing.

See, why should there be so much FUD? Remember Anytime Upgrade keys? Remember the lengthy debates on what one could or couldnt do with those upgrade disks? I have a request for Shawn (being a respected MVP, SF Admin and a nice guy)- can he get us the official MS position on this issue?

Thing is, if they're making exceptions for good cause (and a Peace Corps mission would be the best) then they wouldn't announce the position. Same with mobo changes on OEM. In fact, pressing them on it might cause the exceptions to dry up, especially if they're reported in a respected Windows forum.

I would find a Spanish Home Premium DVD to in-place upgrade it to see if MS will activate it, make her case if necessary. If not I'd buy Spanish HP upgrade or Anytime it to Ultimate-Spanish. Maybe someone has another idea.

I cannot vouch for this but it has remained up in the Forums for months without protest:
