Hello mate.

I don't believe what you propose will work.

Though as you possess a Windows 7 key already that is on the COA sticker attached to the PC why don't you locate an installer and use the tutorial at the link below to create an all versions installer so you can use that to install the exact same version that is on the PC to the SSD; you have 120 days before you would need to activate the new install.

thanks i will give it a read bare foot kid, i think i jumped the gun a bit when i got the ssd and wasted my money, my original plan was to run the operating system from the ssd but having looked into it and the cloning Kingston suggests in there web site my hard drive has 148 GIG in use so i made a error on this project i will try and send it back i got it for just under £50 which was good i think. i can get a external drive with nearly a terrabite onit if i added £20 to the £50, that would of been better cant see the point to use it to just store 30GB of normal data on do you see what i mean? may as well send it back or put it on ebay!!

You could dual boot the 2 SSD/HDD 'till you can get everything moved around, then you could use the HDD as storage; have a look at this info for some ideas.
information   Information

The easiest way to do away with boot issues between 2 separate Windows OSs is to use the BIOS one time boot menu to select which OS to boot at system startup.

If you have 2 separate Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and have one or the other installed to one HDD and you want to install the other; disconnect the HDD with the first OS installed on it and leave the HDD you want to install the second OS to connected.

Install the OS to the connected HDD and when complete and the system is booting good, power down and reconnect the second HDD with the first OS on it.

This way the OSs will boot independently of each other and there will be no boot conflicts between the 2 separate OSs to have to sort later.

The recovery disks bit is what I don't know will work, give it a go, the worst that can happen is a fail and then you could remove the SSD and reconnect the HDD again.
