Windows 7: Upgrading my hard drive

Disconnect the old HDD & boot to the windows install disk, and at the install now menu type shift+f10
then type the following commands one at a time and press enter after each one:

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /rebuildbcd
exit

then shut down, restart and your problem will be solved

I'm getting a bit confused now. Thanks for helping though. I'll think about it in the morning. i gues i could always just install windows 7 on the new hard drive and use windows easy transfer.

I agree with madtownidiot. He is spot on. That will solve your problem and not overwrite your files.

All of the commands given are automated in Win7 Startup Repair.

You need to mark the Win7 partition active, then run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times from booted DVD or Repair CD:
Partition - Mark as Active
Startup Repair

If you want to be sure, post back a screenshot of your full Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.
