Upgrading my hard drive

Follow these steps exactly. Ask back if you have any questions. If you dont' feel like swapping your Win7 HD into DISK0 then I can give you commands to run instead.

Power down, unplug H and plug its cable into C so that C becomes DISK0. Make sure C is set as first HD to boot in BIOS setup.

Boot the Win7 DVD, select Repair My Computer on second screen, accept any offered repair. If it doesn't start after reboot, boot back into the Repair console, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair repeatedly until Win7 starts. Pictures here: Startup Repair

Power down to plug H back into DISK2 cable. Restart Win7, type CMD in Start Search box, rightclick result to Run As Admin, type:
DISKPART
LIS DIS
SEL DIS 2 (confirm from list this is H HD)
CLEAN ALL (takes awhile, wipes HD of all code)
EXIT

If you don't want to wipe the HD, then instead of CLEAN ALL use DELETE PARTITION OVERRIDE

You can now repartition and format DISK2 in Disk Mgmt.

Greg said standby, so here you are.

That's because it's " H " is the "System, Active" partition and that is where the boot files are stored for the whole dual boot.

What you have to do is disconnect the " H " and the " I " hard Disk Drives (HDD) from the motherboard and do the 3 separate startup repairs out-lined in the tutorial to get the C: booting on its own.

Then you can power-down the PC and reconnect the other HDDs and then you will be able to remove XP.

I've decided to start all over again because this was getting confusing. All i wanted to do was upgrade to a larger hard drive.

i thought you fixed it? if you reinstall windows use your new one but with any other discs unplugged from the sata on the motherboard

Basically when i tried to boot it on its own it came up with the message bootMGR is missing. I used starup repair and nothing changed. Also it wouldn't let me install some programs and would not let me upgrade windows

I gave you the steps to remove XP and get Win7 to boot on it's own.

You could have asked back if you had any questions with the steps.
