Windows 7: Crashing during install, video related I think

05 Nov 2010   #11

windows 7 home premium 32bit.

I can't seem to get through anything without it crashing. I can get it to run for about 5 minutes and BOOM! BSOD.

I don't know where to go from here.

I just told you exactly where to go to solve it.

Try running the bugcheck audit tool in Safe Mode, or in less than 5 minutes. Save it to flash stick or CD, then zip and upload it to Crashes forum from another machine.

windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Well I couldn't get the computer to run for more than a couple minutes at best.

Even though I ran a memtest for almost 9 hours with no errors, I tried another stick of ram and BINGO, everything worked just fine and stable!

I have now been running this machine for over a week crash free. I am still waiting to put in the activation code until I know for sure that everything is fine.

The only issue that I have had, is media center crashing a couple of times, but I am thinking maybe an occasional reboot should help with that.

So far I am quite impressed with the speed of Win 7, and the Media center is awesome!

Now to add a tuner card and kick cable to the curb!

Thanks to everyone that offered advise and possible solutions, it is much appreciated.

AM3 motherboards are very limited in the memory you can use. Many other forums, including AMD support forums, are full of threads about memory errors and BSODs with AM3 MOBOs that are almost invariably memory related.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll pick up another Corsair stick identical to the one I have since it seems to work. Might as well boost the memory now then try to find just the right stick later.
