Try partition Wizard free boot disc.

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to boot computer directly ...

If it can see the drives - shrink one of the partitions a little, then click Apply.

Then try the windows 7 dvd startup repair options.

Super grub is a good utility - Apparently you can boot into windows partitions with it but I am yet to try it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------:

Another way:

Boot off Ubuntu live cd: Terminal

sudo apt-get install lilo

sudo lilo -M /dev/sda mbr

Now attempt to boot into your windows partition

Did you format the actual partition you want to get the data from ?

Depending exactly what you did, the Partition Wizard boot disc I posted earlier has a partition recovery function.

Click "partition recovery" , do a quick scan of the whole disk.

Tick ALL the partitions you want to keep, then click Apply.

Depending on what you did with the system rescue cd - Partition Wizard might be able to resurrect the entire partition with everything intact.
