Welcome to the Seven Forums! Doctoral

The guide yomanvista pointed to there is well written instructing how to use the automatic startup repair tool found in the repair tools on the 7 installation dvd to correct the mbr problem the XP installer caused. Once 7 is back running again by use of the Startup repair or a fast trip to the command prompt option to type in the "Fixmbr" and "Fixboot" commands you can later add a new entry into the W7 BCD store for XP.

The guides for use of the EasyBCD program can be looked over at EasyBCD Documentation Home - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

The free program that works well for setting a dual boot is the latest version of EasyBCD seen at Download EasyBCD 2.0.2 - NeoSmart Technologies

You will also want to look at how things are in the "Control Panel>Network&Sharing" and may need to use the network troubleshooter. Once you are configured correctly you will see a new screen appear with the options for Home, Work Place, and Public. Most simply use the Home option by default.
