Every time my dell laptop is in sleep mode for a while - and there is still plenty of battery left it seems to "resume windows" and it's like a startup. Shouldn't it just ask for my password and be there right away?

Okay, it's been updated and I can confirm this is an issue. I got home today and opened up my turned on computer that was fully charged and had to press the power button to resume to my desktop.
I had a laptop a while ago, I believe it was a Toshiba, that hibernated instead of slept. This required the power button to be pressed to "wake it up" and sounds like your issue. Please, if you could, go under "power options" from your system and security control panel, or from the taskbar, and click "change plan settings" on the power plan you use. Click "change advanced power settings" and post a snip of the windows for me. :)
