So i press enter on windows 7 home premium (recovered)
and it brings me back to the setup is starting windows. i restart.

i hit 0 and i get a windows error recovery window

windows failed to start. a rxent hardware ir software change might be the cause. to fix the problem:
1. insert ur windows installation disc and restart ur comp.
2. choose ur language and click next
3. click repair ur comp

other options:
if power was interrupted during startup, choose star wind norm

and then it lists all he safe mode

I'm not getting this step:
Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

You need to get back to where you were here, which presented the Toshiba Recovery Wizard in two places:

i get a "<selecting a process>" window giving me the options :
toshiba recovery wizard

system recovery options

I do not have any recovery media, so I select the sustem recovery options and click next.

then i get a "system recovery options" where i can only select a keyboard input method, the language is already selected to english.

then it has two other options:
use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting windows. select an operating system to repair.

if your os isnt listed, click load drivers and then install drivers for your hard disks.

under operating systems, windows 7 home premium is higlighted and it says partition size 228632 MB and location (c TI10260...

THEN the other option is to restore ur computer using a system image u created earlier(which i never did).

so i leave option 1 selected, and click next.

then i get the recovery tools

startup repair
system restore
system image recovery
windows memory diagnostic
command prompt
toshiba recovery wizard

do i select the command prompt?

I called Toshiba, I'm out of warranty so they couldn't help me much.
They pretty much told me that I could purchase the recovery media for 24.99.
If I purchase these disks, will I be able to restore my computer to its factory settings and fix for once and for all?

what do you suggest?

Did Toshiba tell you if you're running Recovery correctly? Here is Toshiba's help page for running Factory Recovery: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7C02140000R01.htm Looks like you have to hold down the zero key even before you start the computer.

If this fails, you can find any Win7 retail installer or ISO to unlock all versions to clean reinstall Win7 with the Product Key on your COA sticker on machine. This is a better, cleaner install than the Recovery Disks since it doesn't include the factory bloatware utilities and programs which tend to bog down the OS.

Hello gregrocker,

sorry for the absence, I was working. In response to your question, Toshiba did not tell me what was wrong with my recovery or if i was running it correctly. They were rather uninterested in helping, and simply advised me to buy the recovery cds.

I looked at the link you gave me and it appears i am running it correctly, but there are still some issues.

Now i have to be honest, i did not understand anything you said in the following paragraph:
"If this fails, you can find any Win7 retail installer or ISO to unlock all versions to clean reinstall Win7 with the Product Key on your COA sticker on machine. This is a better, cleaner install than the Recovery Disks since it doesn't include the factory bloatware utilities and programs which tend to bog down the OS. "

Thank you for your help!
