Well I finally got a chance this weekend to work on this thing. I placed the new HDD in a good machine, placed the new Win7 disk in it and tried to load. And it failed. It tried to load but it appears this new HDD is bad out of the box. How fristrating. This is the second bad Hitachi HDD I have had out of the box in 2 weeks. I had a bad 500 GB and this one is a 1 TB. I'll pick a new on up tomorrow and see if this is the cure.

That's a shame; you should get a WD Caviar Black, they're good ones; be sure to keep us posted.

Throughout the thread you refer to the Windows installer as a CD, and the drives involved as CD-ROM. It is a DVD and the drive needed must be a DVD drive or multi-type drive.

Try using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key to trigger your DVD drive to boot at computer bootup, or set your DVD drive to boot first in BIOS setup.

It's DVD. I'm an old-timer. To me all disks are CD's, but I know better.

Well I bought a WD Blue 500 GB HDD nad tried it. Same crap. This is strange. I guess I'll buy a mobo. The Win7 DVD is readable on the other machine. The DVD drives work interchangeably. Power is good. Cable whave been swapped. Processor seems to work. Oh well.
