Windows 7: Laptop shuts off during install

07 Jun 2009   #11

Ok, I was able to get it into safe mode and pass where I was before. However, When it showed the "Starting Windows" screen after first reboot, it shut off again. I tried starting it in safe mode with networking and it shut off again. However, in regular safe mode, it started and let me get to the command prompt

Install Windows 7 in safe mode

In following the above thread, how should I go about finding which driver is causing it to shut off?

Are there any peripherals plugged in like printers, iPod, external drives? Let's assume no but the other thing I would try is disabling USB/Firewire from the BIOS. I had a similar issue with a laptop and the only way I could get it installed was by disabling that. Once installed, I was able re-enable the UBS, never needed the firewire but it worked fine.

Captain Zero,

THat seems to work. However, whenever anything USB is plugged in it just shuts off during startup. Do you think it would be a good idea to install the chipset drivers (ATI Radeon Express 200M) in compatibility mode?

Glad to hear it got you booted, at least. Before throwing drivers at the problem, what are you trying to plug in? Some devices won't get past POST on some motherboards.

Here's what I suggest. Enable the USB within the BIOS but don't have anything connected. Boot normally (hopefully) and allow W7 to update the drivers for the USB hubs. Once that's settled, try hot-plugging your device(s). If that works out ok, you can try rebooting WITH them still connected. If the reboot fails, you know it's your devices and, chances are, they're NOT recognized by your motherboard. A BIOS update might correct the problem but that should be last resort.

I'll give that a try. I already updated the BIOS while trying to get the disc to boot.

Laptop or Desktop switching off while loading os or any time...

Hi friends I am from India Bangalore. I am into repair and servicing of laptop other computer parts.

The solution for the above problem of comp getting switched off due to over heating & the solutions for this is:

1) We need to put heat sink paste on the processor.

2) Clean the fan

This will solve the problem @ 99%

If still the same heating problem comes then its the issue with the motherboard.

Never use laptops while charging.
Get your computer serviced once in 3 month's
Use best antivirus software. (Recommended to use Quick heal)
Avoid over charging

Any other issues mail me
