    Hard Drive Wipe Out

I want to upgrade my desktop from XP to 7 Ultimate so it is compatible with my 2 laptops. I have never wiped out a hard drive before. Does anyone know of a good "how to" guide I can follow? I Googled it, but thought you pros would know of something better. I already have the 7 Ultimate software and an external to save my existing file too.

    Thanks

The easiest way is to just start the install and when prompted let "windows 7 install" format the disk.
It will probably save the old XP to a folder called Windows old but all you need to do is delete it after the install.

The steps to wipe your HD with zeroes using Diskpart from the Win7 DVD Command Line are here: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If you want a visual picture of your drive being wiped, use free Partition Wizard bootable CD Disk tab to Wipe with at least one set of zeroes. http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html

    Thanks everyone.
I ran into a major problem with my laptop yesterday (see thread), so I am putting this project on hold until I make sure it is fixed. But I will be sure to post back on this thread when I get to this project.
