    Ahh...so let the old machine be in trial state, he can rearm upto whatever time it allows him. Hopefully, he doesnt know how to install the product key etc. and depends on you for such work. That way if he wants to go back, you can just put the gateway into storage and install the key on the emachine.

    But i think you need to explain to him that he cant charge for the OS should he decide to sell the emachine in this state.

    Right, I have made it clear that the Win7 goes with him and XP goes with the eMachine.

    Unfortunately, I tried slmgr -ipk command to insert Product key on Upgrade version install to wiped HD, and it rejected key as being for Upgrade version.

    I had to do the registry workaround in Brink's tutorial:
    Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

    Perhaps, but I could not. It kept erroring with same code given for Upgrade version fail.

    However after using registry workaround the slmgr -ipk command reported success.
