    Unplug the XP HD.

Change the BIOS boot order to boot the Win7 HD after DVD drive.

If Win7 won't boot on its own now, boot the Win7 DVD or Repair CD, press Shift F10 at first screen or click through to Recovery Tools list to open a Command Line, mark Win7 partition Active: Partition - Mark as Active
    System Repair Disc - Create

Now boot back into DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept any offered Repair. If Win7 doesn't start, boot back into Repair console, click through to Recovery Tools list to Run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots until Win7 starts. Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Now power down to plug XP HD back in, boot XP as needed by using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key which on Intel mobos is F8. This keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please.

Did you follow the exact steps given, running Startup Repair 3 times after marking Win7 Active and setting first to boot in BIOS setup, with XP HD unplugged.?

Using Diskpart or free Partition Wizard bootable CD, see if you have the 100mb System Reserved partition on the Win7 HD. If so, mark it Active instead of Win7, then try repairs.

With all drives plugged, please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map with listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

On some systems Win 7 and XP do not play well together. Attempting to dual boot XP after Win 7 install can cause the problems you are having. You need to have XP installed first then Win 7.

Why not get a copy of XBox and install XP in a VM then you don't have to worry about future problems of this nature. . .just a thought. Good Luck.

C is still not marked Active. Although it says System it may need further repair which may only work if it is marked Active. The configuration is wrong in other ways too (XP has no System Active flag which it also should) typical of too much messing being done with it.

Try using free Partition Wizard bootable CD so you can see a picture of what you're doing. Free Download Magic Partition Manager Software - Partition Wizard Online

Unplug XP HD, Boot PW CD, Rightclick C to Modify>Set to Active, OK, Apply. Then on PW Disk tab, choose Rebuild MBR.

See if Win7 will start. If not, boot into DVD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots now that Win7 is marked Active.

Once Win7 starts, you can plug back in the XP HD to see if it will boot via BIOS one-time Boot menu key, or add to Dual Boot from Win7 using EasyBCD 2.0 which is easier. If not, you'll need to unplug Win7 HD to run a Repair Install on XP so it becomes independent to boot on its own via BIOS.
