Windows 7: Installing XP with 7

Hi Jack -

I believe you were in the middle of slipstreaming SATA driver into the XP installer when you asked which driver to use. The correct answer is the SATA controller driver from your chipset. You can find it on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer or mobo model. Unzip it and browse from Nlite to pick it up in the Add Drivers stage.

An alternative to this is running XP in virtual mode using Virtual Machine or Virtual Box if you have a program which will not run correctly when installed in Compatibility Mode

Let us know if you need any further help.

That model Dell has either the GM45 Chipset or the PM45 Chipset according to the Chipset downloads on Dell site.

Look in your Device Manager under Storage Controller to see which chipset your model uses, then find the XP driver on the Intel drivers downloads page. It will likely be Intel Matrix Storage Manager downloaded here:

If the Device manager doesn't reveal the exact chipset model, use Belarc Advisor to audit it from your hardware or to cross-check.
