You said you have the Home Premium key which came with the computer and should be on the COA sticker affixed to machine.

Did you buy an Anytime Upgrade Professional key before or during the Upgrade process? You should have it if you did. These are retail keys you purchase from MS or buy at a store. Anytime Upgrade will not activate without one.

Thanks, Jaycee. I had clicked on the wrong download link.

Yep. Got that. It's on the sticker and in the paperwork.

This is correct. I did buy an Anytime Upgrade. I bought it online from the MS download site. When I installed it directly from the download, I chose the option to have it automatically retrieve the key since at that time I didn't know what it was. Did I specifically buy a key? I assumed that was part of the upgrade and obviously it was since I now have pro on my computer. I expected to see the key shown on the screen so I could copy it down. I didn't see that key. If it was displayed, I missed it. All I'm saying is I don't have a clue what it is and would like to find that out so I can keep a record of it. If I decide to do a factory restore, I'll need it.

    Hi Robert,

When you purchased the Anytime Upgrade, did you receive a receipt from MS? Say an email receipt? If you did, and the key is not shown on that, can you use that receipt to get in touch with MS and ask them to send you the key?

    Regards,
    Golden

Golden is correct: if you bought an Anytime Upgrade key you should have a receipt. If not, check your bank statement online to get the identifier from the purchase and call MS Customer Service to get a receipt and copy of the key to keep for your records.

Go to Computer>Properties, look at the installed Win7 version, then scroll down to see if it is activated. You'll need the Product ID (not the same as key) for Customer service, as well.

When you audit the Product Key using Belarc Advisor or one of the other free programs suggested, does it show an installed Professional Product key? If so, you can save that as it is almost certainly the actual key, although I would cross-check it with my receipt and MS.

Be sure to save a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall both OS's again: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Following up on gregrocker's post ... you'll find Belarc Advisor here Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit
Print out the report. This is so handy if and when you ever have to replace anything pertaining to hardware on your computer or purchased software keys.

Why is it the simplest solutions are often the best? I checked my spam filter and there it was. DUH! Thanks, Golden.

My thanks to all of you who have offered suggestions. You've been extremely helpful.

I did download SIW from BFK's link. What a great tool to have. I can see some very good uses for that one.

I'll fiddle some more with another issue I have, doing a full restore left as a last step.
