    Thoughts on a Gigabyte GA790XTA-UD4 ?

I'm like shell shocked here, second guessing myself all the way!!

That should work just fine, I just used the 890 MB last week.

Do you think they will swap out for the ASUS ?

    Because this wasn't wierd enough.

I call Asus tech support again today prior to Newegg for an RMA.

After explaining the issue and the trouble shooting steps we've taken here, A tec tells me to remove the MB from the case and pull everything off it. I explain I'm at work - I'll do it when I get home, wasn't what I thought I'd get from tech support.

I get home and pull the MB out of the case. I call back to talk to A tec - He's not available so I start the story, issues, troubleshooting all over with another fella who quickly passes me on to tier 2. I start the story all over...

I explain the condition of the hardware laying on cardbroad across my desk and he starts with clear CMOS.
Power cord, battery, jumper 30 sec -> Jumper, battery Power cord.
Restart - Hit f2 load bios defaults -> reboot hit F8
Please select boot device - 2 devices listed Sata HD and Sata DVD. Select DVD and it starts to load install for windows....Well he says it's not the board must be OS or HD - Call MS or Seagate

I click through the prompts all while explaining to him how I get this error during OS install 0x80070057, where he tells my OS or HD are the issue not MB. He and I are discussing next steps etc, when the OS begins installing 10%, 65%, 100%. Well I get case number and hang up.

This os installs, updates, etc all while hardware is strewn across my desk...I am so happy.

I turn everything off, reinstall the hardware and go to boot "A Disk read error occurred"
Restart - > the Bios sees the HD and ODD but when I attempt to install there is not drive listed in the OS menu...LOL seriously I feel as if I've lost my mind

Chris, this is Buffalo Dust they are blowing you off with. Did you get a RMA for this second board or not? Tell them you have spent so many hours over the past two weeks on this & even ASUS is not really sure what is wrong, they are just guessing. Tell NewEgg you want the Gigabyte MB you listed above (GA790XTA-UD4 ) NO ifs, ands, or buts. This is serious TWO MB's failing. IF not, you will start buying all your computer needs from TigerDirect & Fry's Electronics. Likewise the word will be spread on SevenForums about poor return policy on TWO bad ASUS MB's . Remember to mention that we are over 1 million members strong, that buy thousands of dollars of computer equipment monthly. If getting the new Gigabyte MB does not work for you. I will commit myself !! To build your computer for you.
Good Luck & my fingers are crossed for success

So the new tech guy had you take everything out of the case and install W7 with all the mobo & components laying about?

Then when you put everything back in the case you get errors ..

You the Man Doc! Thank you for the advice and the encouragement.

Let me just say right now....
Thank you NEWEGG customer service and RMA/Refund Process they are excellent and have made a bad situation as positive as possible.

Asus tech support….the 5 individuals I spoke with, made this situation worse!
#1 An answering service for tech support with no call back.

#2 A tech that asks me to call back, when I do and he’s busy I leave VM with no return call.

#3 The techs I did speak to escalated me through tiers (3) so quickly I got tired of telling people the issues I encountered.

#4 The problem was never “SOLVED”. I have a case number and documented details that will be shared with ASUS for Quality purposes J.

Regardless here we are with today’s update – I needed to take a break from this issue over the weekend.

Newegg is issuing a second RMA/Refund. The first RMA/Refund is in process.

An order was placed for a Gigabyte GA-890XA-UD3 MB and will be here tomorrow. More to come then!!

**To my Sister - By end of week you'll have your Christmas Present :)**
