how to remove fake windows 7 - help!

hope this is the correct place to ask for help but I am new to the forum :) My father purchased a brand new laptop from a well known high street shop via their online service. Due to his lack of knowledge he decided to upgrade to windows 7 pro and purchased this software from Amazon. The laptop since upgrading has been unable to connect to the internet and eventually in desperation I connected it via an ethernet cable. Within a very short time the windows 7 build 7600 is not genuine message came up so I want to remove it and return to the windows home; it did connect happily prior to this upgrade. How do you remove it? I cannot find anything for removal under F8. The laptop is an HP if this makes any difference....... any assistance would be much appreciated :)

Your issue is not with a fake Windows OS. You simply need to activate the copy of Windows that is installed on the laptop. If you have the CD key that came with your retail purchase, this should take mere seconds. Be sure you have internet connection, first. Activate by clicking on the start button. Right click "computer" then go to "properties, then click on "Activate Windows Now. Enter the CD key when prompted.

Make sure that it's not just a case of activating the software as others have said.

If you really have a "Fake Windows 7" then you need to take that issue back to Amazon (or, potentially tougher, an Amazon-hosted seller). If the latter in particular you need to highlight a scammer so other customers aren't ripped off in the same way.

After attempting to activate as given, if it fails then call MS Customer Service. They will tell you if the key is valid and, if so, open a tech support case to get it activated one way or another.

If not valid, report it to MS then take the issue to Amazon so they can get your money back. Be sure to let us know how they respond.

If you didn't make Factory Recovery disks when first setting up the machine, you can likely still run Recovery from boot following the steps theog posted. HP will also send you the disks for cost.

Activated the windows 7 pro and this is when the problems started. It keeps having the error message that my activation has lapsed, need to re-activate, have key and tried to activate which leads to error message and several windows appear to say that we are a victim to software fraud etc. This then directs me to the MS site for downloading activation repair but the windows 7 Pro OS on this laptop refuses to allow any updates or activation repair. Tried to run the recovery discs for Windows 7 Home but again these will not run. Will telephone MS tomorrow for advice but do not understand why the laptop was fine with windows 7 Home as pre-installed but when upgraded has not worked since, just these error messages. How do I ascertain if the key number I have is legitimate please? Thankyou.

Hi Tilly2010 download this number checker Microsoft PIDX Product Key Checker for Windows 7 Free Download - KezNews.com , this will tell you if the number is genuine or not, If it is'nt get straight on to Amazon and tell them about it and insist they provide a genuine key :)
