    Hello everyone:)

I hope somebody can help me with my problem....
I have just change from XP to Windows 7 32 bit ( or i am trying to....), but in the middle of the installation the computer freezes. So i have to start over again and the same happens everytime.
I was reading in another forum about someone who had the same problem, and he had to buy a new harddrive because that was the problem.
I have done the same, but its not working with me.

Do i need to install some drives before i install Windows 7?
Here is a little about my computer:

Abit AB9 Pro, Ati Radeon HD4890, Samsung 500 gb harddrive, Dualcore 3,2

    Please please help me.
First off, you can not do an Upgrade from XP. If that is what you are trying to do, that is the problem. You must do a Clean (Custom) Install. You can use a Win 7 Upgrade Disk to do a clean install. See here. Clean Install Windows 7
Insert your Win 7 Disk, shut down your PC and boot from the Win 7 disk. This will start your installation. Just remember that a Clean Install erases everything so make sure you have your files you want to keep backed up. Let us know how things go.
I did read a lot before i began installing windows 7. The guy in the shop where i bought the windows 7 cd sayd that i could run into many problems when installing windows 7 on a Xp system, and he recomened me to by a new pc with windows 7 installed. But i was willing to try anyway:) I did all the things that where shown on Microsofts web page before installing w7. upgrade adviser etc..

I boot from the cd and the installation begins. But i goes very slow. After 10 min the language options appear and then it will take atleast 5 min before the partitons options is on the screen. There i choose the one that i just bought..
It says Disk 0 partition 1 with 465,7 gb, Type: system.
I have another option, but thats only 100 mb and it says that windows can not be installed on this disk( it says "disk" but maybe thats in Norwegian:)
When i push next then its beginning to copy files and unpack. And then i stops, gets to around 20% of unpacking.

Do not listen to the guy that told you Win 7 does not install over XP. You do not need a new PC. You are fine. We will get you through this. == Sometimes it seems to stop installation when it is still working. It just takes a while. When you say "it stops", how long is that?

When it hangs during install as you have described, it tends to be ram memory, Video card, or connected USB devices, that cause the slow install. Check that Questions List :)

An hour is too long. It took me about 50 minutes to install. There are times when it will work for 15 minutes before it asks you to do anything. By the way I installed over XP with a Win 7 OEM, just like you are doing.

Ok maybe there was a little problem that i dident mentioned..
When i did the Upgrade adviser there was one issue that came up.
It was something about the Microsoft. NET Framework 1.1. program that was not compatible with windows 7.
But i thought when i did a clean installation that every program would be deleted.
And now i have new harddrive with nothing on it....

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update #22 11/07 from Abit Support Downloads webpage here: http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/downl...ET_TYPE=LGA775. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Also in BIOS setup, if you have SATA HD then check that the SATA controller is set to AHCI first, then IDE mode if necessary.

Wipe the HD to get the cleanest possible slate: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation After Step 1 running Clean All, follow Step 2 #2 to create partition and mark it active.

If install still fails, test your RAM with memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes or overnight: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Test your HD with maker's diag/repair full CD scan: HD Diagnostic

I am not familiar with that program, but I don't think it would stop your installation. Like you said you would have erased everything anyway. Will get back to you.
