    Upgrading to W7 x64

    Hi.
Basically, my Windows was messed up so I re-installed Windows Vista 32 bit onto my computer. My copy of Windows 7 is a .iso from Microsoft and its 64 bit. Whenever I try to run the .iso i get an error message about it being the wrong type of Windows. I'm guessing that this is because I have 4gb of ram but windows vista 32 bit has reduced it to 3gb and I read online that you need at least 4gb to run Windows 7. How do I go about re-installing Windows 7?

P.S. I had this exact copy of Windows 7 on my computer before so I know that it will work, I just need to know how to re-install it.

    Thanks.

The windows update advisor says that the minimum RAM is only 2gb (although most recommend 4) so that shouldn't be a problem for you...

Burn the ISO file to DVD or write it to a 4gb+ flash stick: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

Then boot the DVD by using one-time BIOS boot menu, or setting DVD or USB flash stick as first device to boot in BIOS setup: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstr.../bootcddvd.htm

Choose Custom install>Drive options to delete Vista from HD, repartition as you wish, then format before installing Win7 to first OS partition - ignore any 100mb boot partition it assigns - this conveniently places the Repair console on your F8 Adv Boot Tools menu.

You did not need to reinstall Vista to run the Upgrade version Win7. Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
