I have been attempting to install windows 7

I have been attempting to install windows 7 on a Gx280 on and off for a while now. Originally the system had a 3.2ghz 32-bit cpu in it. (Intel Pentium 4 540) and 1gb as 2 512mb 400mhz ddr2 modules. I purchased an extra 2gb of ddr533, knowing it will run at 400mhz if i keep the original 2 memory modules for a total of 3gb, and installed a Pentium 4 650 3.4ghz cpu (w/ 64 bit support and more cache, which i purchased when building a computer in 2005-6) because it seems to be about the best the motherboard can handle, since it is incompatible with dual-core cpu's.
none of these things are the limiting factor here, as i still have the same issues installing as before. I also recently installed a MSI HD 3450 w/ 512mb DDR3, because it was only $35. I have changed the BIOS settings to enable Hyperthreading and show the full memory capacity on OS install, instead of 256mb. (option only available in BIOS if you exceed 2gb) switched primary video adapter and some other things that would increase performance, in hopes that it would allow a Winstall.
I have gotten as far as the OP, "Nwebb", and will try the legacy floppy support disable that "zigzag3143" mentioned, But I am wondering what BIOS version everybody with a successful Winstall has been using.
Also wondering if the people who said the Gx280 will not boot from usb just mean for a windows install, because if the usb device is plugged in, you press F12 for boot options and go down to USB device, which doesn't seem to show up if there is no USB device plugged in. I use a Kingston MicroSDHC reader, the kind you could easily fit in your nose, if you wanted to. got it with a 16gb microsd @ newegg and use it with my 8gb one to boot 'nix distro's and if you make/have an .iso you can add the windows 7 installation dvd to your usb storage device, using multibootusb
( Boot Multiple ISO from USB (MultiBoot USB) | USB Pen Drive Linux ) but no matter what the installation media, i get the BSOD at the same point as OP "NWEBB" had. As for the legacy floppy support option, i guess i missed that in BIOS, will give it a try. I'm hoping maybe that worked and that is why OP mysteriously vanished right after saying OP would 'give it a try'

    I wouldn't use a oem windows 7 key.....weak power supply.....

You installed a 64 bit CPU, but will the motherboard support 64 bit?

You are referring to posts not in this thread which you just started new. Hence we have no idea what you are referencing throughout.

Can you please ask specific questions a succinctly as possible?

Do you have a DVD drive to use or must you use a USB installer? Do you only have an SD card? Have you tried writing the ISO to card using UltraISO or Win2flash?

Have you tried installing to your upgraded build yet, what happened, what are the exact error messages and codes? What method did you use to try install?

I concur with Ivan that you should wait the full 30 days to activate (even extend up to 180 days) to see if your hardware runs Win7 to your liking.
