How do you reformat 1st op system and not lose 2nd on dual boot sys

    Hi all
I have a dual boot system, XP 32 BIT and WIN 7 ULTIMATE 64 BIT. Its been running fine for the last 8 months but xp (which was the first install) has become buggy and is in need of a reformat. I have reformatted windows 7 before and kept xp with no problems but having tried to format xp in past setups i have always lost the second operating system. Be it win7 or win vista. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem you encounter is a defunct MBR after you installed XP with Win7 already present. The normal sequence is the other way around - XP first, Win7 second.

But with the method that Bare Foot Kid posted, you can fix that.
