no problems found.im going to sort the partition as you said before.then ill try an install.ill post back tomorrow let u know how it goes

you are a true diamond bare foot kid.deleted and created new partition and xp is working fine now.so problem solved.just got to get my old boot menu back.i need to copy boot ini files to win7.is that right?
anyway thanks for your time and ill b sure to post here again if i run into trouble

Hello again and thanks.
Have a look at this one if you need to get back to Windows 7 after the XP install.
Mark the Windows 7 partition as active in the XP disk management and do the startup repairs.
Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times
