Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Then in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI first, then IDE mode if necessary.

Try wiping the HD before install: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Other tips to get a purrfect install: re-install windows 7

Hello Nytesurfer, welcome to Seven Forums!

If there is nothing on the Hard Disk Drive that you need to save, have a look at this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the HDD to get the best possible space to install Windows 7 to, then use Step Two #2 to create a single 100GB partition to do the installation to or if you want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition see Step Two #3.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I hope you made the Factory Recovery Disks before installing Win7. If not, I'd keep the Recovery Partition and only wipe the HD as a last resort. Try everything else first and report back.

Removing all but 2gb of RAM would be the next step I'd suggest after the others given, along with testing RAM with memtest86: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Then I'd test the HD using maker's diag/repair extended CD scan:
