    CD/DVD drivers not found

    I'll rundown my symptom, list my system and then list the solutions i've tried so far - unsuccsefully. I've already been pretty resourceful, and yet...

    Any help is appreciated :)

    =======================
    PRObLEM

    Insert bootable dvd (which works on my other system, so its not the disk), bootloader initializes, first screen is the language selection screen. Following screen is simply 'install' button - I click 'install' and after a bit of loading get the message:

    "No device drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers..." pointing to a cd/dvd drive.

    ========================
    CURRENT SETUP

    Asus P5B
    Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo 2.13ghz
    4GB's (4x1sticks) Corsair DDR2 5300 (667mhz)
    SATA TSSTCorp (samsung) CD/DVD SH 223L (originaly ran into this on an older IDE TSST...upgraded)
    SATA Seagate 350GB HD (50GB OS partition - running XP currently)
    SATA Seagate 500GB HD
    Geforce GT 220
    Sparkle 400w PSW

    ========================
    SO FAR...

    0) Scoured forums, harassed friends
    1) Updated to most current Bios
    2) Looked for new CD/DVD drivers (no such thing, just firmware updates available)
    3) Tried as many SATA/IDE variations in Bios as I could think of until I don't know what I've tried anymore
    4) Swapped my old IDE drive for a brand new SATA drive
    5) retried all SATA / AHCI varations in bios
    6) Tried loading (while in win7 bootloader) most current Jmicron SATA/RAID controller drivers
    7) Started banging head against desk
    8) Looking at USB boot as last option

    My understanding of the problem WAS that it was a conflict of host controller types ie SATA / IDE / AHCI (I am not an expert on these things), and I was originally confident that a all SATA system / Bios would solve it. I've just today discovered talk of windows 7 bootloader as simply identifiying another component as a optical drive and getting stuck on it - the solution being to pull out all unecessary components and work up from there (the only thing I could pull out at this point would be the slaved 500gb, 3 sticks of ram and my wireless card...which I seriously doubt would generate this symptom, but whoooo knows). I have also heard PLENTY of talk that it's a bad disk, bad burn, burnt too fast, and yet this disk has worked on another system.

    ================
    MY HOPE

    is for the magical bios combination that I haven't hit. I don't know bios settings beyond the basics. if someone has a grasp of my issue, I'm all ears. I've been at this for like a week

    1) Are you dual booting XP & Windows 7?

    2) Are you over installing a 32bit XP with Windows 7 64bit?

    given it's a windows 7 forum, i was hoping i didnt need to specify what disc im installing

    @ jelyman: yes, windows 7 dvd, it's a slipstreamed version that holds 32x and 64x version.

    @theog: i am not trying to set up a dual boot - but i do have xp already installed (as a 50g partition) on the drive that i'm hoping to format over with the win7 install. im hoping to install 64x, but i have been unable to get so far as to select that option, as i am immediately blocked by the drivers requirement.

    i wonder if there is something to do with the xp Os already sitting on the HD that is making windows 7 think there is an optical drive there without drivers, for which it can find none... i have daemon tools installed, which boots up with windows.... but thats stretching it no?

    I'll try and get a photo posted of my drive setup as windows 7 install sees it.

    Can't install a 64bit on top of a 32bit. You need to wipe the drive clean then install Win 7.

    I knew it would be something stupid simple like that.

    Before I go ahead on this though....why would it be giving me this error even before i've selected 32x or 64x as my install option?
