Windows 7 x32 to x64 problems

I currently have Windows 7 x32 premium and i have recently brought components to upgrade from my current system state (2Gb RAM) to new system state (6Gb). I have tried installing Windows 7 x64 but it wont let me. Will i have to install the 6Gb of RAM before it will let me?

No. You can install x64 on a system with 2GB.

What is your mobo model number?

What do you mean, "It won't let me?" Do you have a mobo that supports x64?

You'll have to give us more details as to what you mean by "it won't let me". Did you back up your data? Did you wipe the drive(s) clean before you started?

Hello Wappleton0, welcome to Seven Forums!

There is no upgrade path from 32-bit to 64-bit it will have to be a clean install; the best way to go forward is to make back-ups of the data you need to save and do a wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive, have a look at this information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

No, you don't need 6GB of RAM.

You can't upgrade-in-place any 32 bit version of Windows to a 64 bit one. You'd have to do a custom (clean) install. That will lose all of your settings and installed programs.

To do that, you have to boot the PC from the Win7 X64 upgrade DVD.
