Installation Process Frozen At "Installing Update"

I've recently had ubuntu 10.04 installed on my laptop and I wanted to switch back to Windows 7. I have a copy of my windows 7 on my hard drive which I've used to reinstall windows 7 multiple times. For some odd reason when I try now every time I go through the process it freezes at "Installing Updates" and goes no farther. It doesn't have a percentage next to it or anything. I've deleted all the partitions, formatted it multiple times and still the same problem.

How are you booting the installer if it's on your HD?

You'll need to burn it to DVD or write to USB flash stick to boot it, then wipe the HD of all code, since GRUB can corrupt Win7 until it is wiped from the drive: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

I was booting the installer off an external hard drive. I kept trying and instead of formatting the partition that failed at installing I just retried it and it worked. It's completing the installation right now.

All Linux code must be deleted. As you have had linux on the HD you need do a Clean all & full format.

Try a full clean & full format in command prompt.
    1) Boot DVD & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
    2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup
    (for command prompt)

    Type in command line
    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
    SELECT DISK # (win HD)
    CLEAN ALL
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
    FORMAT fs=NTFS
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
    EXIT
