im running a windows 7 home premium with an i5 processor and 4 gb of ram(laptop). my computer consists of daily 2gb web uploading. daily 3d animation. daily photo editing. and daily high res video editing and rendering. i am not money challenged but i was wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to an i7 processor. and i was also wondering what the best thing for me to research would be. like with compatability issues.
only upgrade if you feel the machine is holding you back too much.
You seem to do a lot on a daily basis with that machine, maybe you should purchase a second machine instead of upgrading, this would allow you to do your rendering on the new faster machine and still work with the high res photos on the one you have now.
buying a 2nd computer is the only limit that i have. if im rendering a 2gb video twice a day it about 20 minutes each and creating high res pictures with slight lag. will the i7 help with that? reduce lag and rendertime? because while i render i can not do anything else on my computer. i have to sit and watch the bar slowly move across my screen.
it also depends on the software you are using of-course if its optimized to use all the power in the hardware. (Multi Threading, GPU Computation, ect ect)
Get a better GPU also :)
if you are going to upgrade i would say the new sandybridge i7 2600-k :) or the i5 2500-k they can go as high as 4.6Ghz out the box. or 980x hehe but sandybridge is the way to go.
Or wait for Ivy-Bridge socket with the faster CPUs
