Did you miss the step after marking Active to run Startup Repair from the booted Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD up to 3 separate times with reboots? Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

This will start Win7 so you can add XP using EasyBCD 2.0.

If as shown in screenshot Win7 is on C, you'll need to convert it to Primary first using steps BFK posted.

You don't need a DVD for either Partition Wizard CD or Win7 Repair CD.

It may sound odd, but I went ahead and just did a clean install and am currently in the process of recovering my files from windows.old, I think next time I'll stick to it virtualized on my main machine, but thanks to all of you. Rep is in order here
