    New install with old hdd

Hi, I want to build a new Win 7 pc, but I also want to use the hard drive out of my old one as there is software on it that I have lost the serials to. Whats the best way to do this?
If I build and install win 7, and then add the other hdd with xp already on, how can I switch between the 2?
    Thanks

Plug in the XP HD alone, run a Repair Install to adjust it to the new hardware and reactivate: Repair Windows XP - How To Perform a Repair Installation of Windows XP - Part 1 of 2

Unplug the XP HD and swap it's cable to Win7 target HD, or make sure it is set as first HD to boot in BIOS setup. Install Win7 following these illustrated steps: Clean Install Windows 7

After Win7 install, plug back in the XP HD and boot it when needed using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key which every mobo has. This BIOS-booting method keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please.

If you dont' like this arrangement, install EasyBCD 2.0 to Win7 to Add XP to a Windows-managed Dual Boot which will interlock the HD's requiring surgery to remove XP later.

Is your old PC HD IDE or SATA?

Can you post your specs for both PC's.
