    Harddrive won't partition for dual boot.


    Hey there, I'm currently running Windows 7 and I'm trying to partition my hard drive so I can dual boot Mac os x Leopard. I have 133 GB free on my 230 GB internal hard drive, but when I partition the drive the computer will only let me open about 5 GB of space. I have defragged the drive and nothing changed. I am new to dual booting and I am really only doing this as an experiment. If anyone can give me any advice as to how I can partition more space or how much is needed I would be very grateful. Thanks.

    Vista/7 Disk management will only allow you to shrink till it meets a system file on the hd.

    3rd party partition managers will move those files and allow you to shrink further.

    Thanks for responding. Do you have any suggestions of third party software to use? I tried Partition Magic 8, but it has "compatibility issues" with Windows 7 apparently.

    Easeus is a very good free one I have never had a problem with it. Used it 10-15 times. I would look at the in addition to anything SIW tells you since he knows more than me. haha

    Easeus free that Nate mentioned may be able to do it - but it only works on 32 bit o/s.

    You could try Gparted - also free - d/l the iso - burn it to cd - boot the cd.

Hi I have a 300gb harddrive that i shrank by 50gb to make room for a windows 7 rc1 32 bit dual boot. I now need to extend the partition because i have almost filled it up. When i shrink the main partition (the 238gb one) that has vista on it, it won't let me extend the windows 7 partition onto it....
