    Error during clean install

    hello all,

I have an old Dell XPS Gen2 desktop that is running WinXP. I wipped my Raid0 hard drives to perform the install of Windows7. After helping the setup see my raided hard drives, I started the install.

After the second step in the installation process I keep getting an error message that says something like:
"Windows could not configure your computer's boot sequence. The installation could not continue"

Does anyone know what I'm missing? Could my bios be too out of date for this setup? or is it something else?

    Any insight would be awesome.

Anyone???? The actual message is as follows:

"windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed"

Again I erased my hard drive before starting the install, and I needed to load the Raid drivers during the setup process for windows 7 to recognize my hard drive.

    Any suggestion?

Honestly no idea. But I think I have a sneaky suspicion that because Dell has the system quite closed down, you are facing that problem...it could also be that you need some chipset drivers possibly installed before plonking the OS in there? Dunno really. Guessing right now.

could you re-boot and check what bios says abt your hard drives?

    Hi Ken,

    under "Drive Configuration" it says:
    -Sata Raid: on
    -Primary Master Drive: off
    -Primary Slave Drive: off
    -Secondary Master Drive: CD-ROM device
    -Secondary Slave Drive: CD-ROM device
    -IDE Drive UDMA: on

Under "Hard-Disk Drive Configuration" is says:
    -System Bios Boot Devices
    2. Intel RAID_Volume1
    3. USB Device (not installed)
    4. Unknown Device (not installed)

and "IDE Hard Drive Acoustics Mode" is set to Bypass

I have a feeling that the old RAID drivers on my computer may be part of the problem.

    thanks, Gerard

I still don't know where the error is, but I de-Raided my hard drives, and the set-up worked just fine. So it had something to do with an incompatible raid controller or something like that.

    Thanks for the responses.
