I would try to burn another dvd, burn it at a slow speed to make sure it is a good copy.
I know it is a dumb question but are you sure the drive reads dvds? I know that is an older laptop and the dvd drive was only in the better r40's.
Well, it read the Windows Server 2003 install DVD well enough, so it does read DVDs. I will take the second download of the Win7 RC1 beta and reburn from that.

In lieu of a checksum verify which M$ has denied us, I did binary-compare the two images (on a trusty linux box) - no difference. That's as good as I can get to a checksum, unless there's a checksum hash to download from somewhere.

Is there any official M$ forum to check in at to help troubleshoot this? DId also try the Win7 forum at Neowin to no avail.

Found http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...s=ATI%20Radeon which is ambiguous on the ATI Radeon 7500; one yes, but not my 32MB model in the ThinkPad.

What's wrong with the 'beta download 7100 or (sic) higher?'

Beta=build 7000, anything higher is a release build untill the true RTM comes out. Build 7000 is going to timebomb starting July 1 2009, so you would have to re-install. Build 7201 doesn't time out untill 2010. so Im just saying if you are gonna re-install use a higher number builde

    Hope this helps

Version, version, who's got the version?

The latest version from the Microsoft Download Center (and also Technet) is 7100... not 7200. Where did you get 7200?

ziggy's absolutly correct, and for more reasons than he listed.

this is as "official" as a forum as your going to get ATM, that your going to get any kind of decent help on. Mostly since it's not released yet, and most these people didn't get their versions from MS directly.

Good on ya for the checksum, unfortunately, 7100 and below didn't support all Motherboards, especially older R series; and if I'm not mistaken, you need a 64 bit version of Win7.

Try either of the above, and let us know how it goes.

Also, What is the specific error your seeing, at what point are you blocked?

    Thanks,
    Ant

Edit> Ok, I see your error, but could you elaberate; at what point does it hit (is not one im familiar with)

Why? 32-bit should be all I need.

Starts to read from the DVD then shows the code Sfh> onscreen before any boot message or splash screen. My Server CD 2003 (32-bit) boots perfectly and moves into install, but my Win7 just shows that and hangs.

Actually if you look in the general section there are so many newer version you will not believe it. The currently avail 32 bit is 7260, and 64 bit is 7232.

    Hope this helps
