Actually, it was the optional update part that I missed.

Thanks!

There is however a setting which would also download the optional updates,
Right where it says Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates.

As far as the non-english speaking part goes though, i'm not american either.

I'm french.

So english is also my second language.

The fact that the optional updates don't download automatically, makes it all the more bizarre as far as how much the downloads have added to this install.

It was only 9gb off of the dvd, and it's now up to 14gb.

That's 5gb with barely a few hundred mb accounted for by various small applications i've installed, like a firewall, antivirus, etc.

I resent that remark. My first post in this thread was a valid and correct answer to your question. I can see no reason for this kind of remark, especially when thinking I have done nothing else than trying to explain the thing to you, to show your issue is non-existent.

Read the thread through once more before saying something like that again.

NO THERE IS NOT! Recommended updates and optional updates are two completely different things.

That's a joke when someone says "why didn't you say so".
That's something even I as a frenchman "get".

Thanks for the help.

Several GBs of language files should @$#! well be safe to delete
I've poked around Win 7 and find several GBs of language files for 37+ languages I will never use. They were still there even long after I ran lpksetup to remove language packs. They *have* to be safe to delete; what use could Windows ever find for them since I will never be using anything other...

Windows Update optional updates (incl. language packs) disappeared
Hello everyone, I just came to realize the Windows Update window does not show the usual thirty-something available optional updates (last time I checked it was all the language packs and an ATI driver update), only 1 available important update. Moreover, if I try to select the updates I want...

Can't see language packs in optional updates.
Before you ask, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I want to install the Korean language pack, but no language packs appear in the 'optional updates' windows. I've installed Japanese before, so I know I can install languages. The languages are not hidden either cause I've checked. Halp?

want to delete Hotfixes and Updates Leftovers
Can Hotfixes and update leftovers be deleted like Windows XP? in which folder they are saved now in windows 7? i want to check how much space is staking and if its worth the gain. I have a recently created full backup and image system just in case something goes wrong so that may not be a problem.

W7 Language Packs in Updates necessary?
1. Just noticed in Win7 Updates list all the language packs. Are these the Packs themselves or merely updates to the pre-existing Packs within W7? 2. Regardless of answer to Ques#1, is there any reason not to delete these update Packs from the update list instead of installing them? I see no...
