    Hi and welcome to SF.

One thing we are gonna need is specifics of your machine, OS (32 or 64), clean install or upgrade, etc. then we might be able to help more quickly

just a guess, but try going into the Control Panel and Power Options. There you can configure how the shutdown button works.

thanks for the specs. when you hit the shutdown button thru the start button what happens? Does the disk light flash consistantly for a minute or so then stop?

right click on the Taskbar, go to Properties -> Start Menu tab

Change "Power button action" to suit your needs.

This can be caused by an error during shut down, try this:

Goto the Start Orb, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button under 'Startup and Recovery' (as opposed to the other two Settings buttons on that tab). Uncheck Automatically restart.

Nop unchecking Automatic restart don't help here. I can not turn my computer properly,it is always working, in xp shut down is ok but in windows 7 shut down restart my computer... Only with unpluging the cable from the power supply or from the wall i can stop my computer... that is my problem...
    P.S.
sorry for my english and for not being to clear about this.
